Police are appealing for witnesses in relation to an alleged abduction of a female jogger in Christchurch.

The alleged incident took place at around 5:50am in the suburb of Ilam, at the entrance to Ray Blank Park on Maidstone Rd.

The woman fought off the man, and a member of the public who was driving past stopped to help her. This witness followed the man to the nearby street, where police found him.

Marcel Sydney Geros, 27, was arrested and charged over the alleged attempted abduction.

He entered no plea to the charges of assaulting a woman with intent to injure and detaining her with intent to have sexual connection at the Christchurch District Court on Friday.

Geros opposed bail, and has been remanded in custody due to reappear on October 4, Court News reports.

Last week, police issued a statement appealing for information over two attempted abductions in Christchurch.

Geros allegedly confronted a woman at the Jellie Park Recreation and Sports Centre main carpark, before fleeing on a bicycle.

It's claimed he then went on to try and abduct the woman jogger.

Anyone with information about the incidents are urged to call Christchurch Police on (03) 363 7400.
