Strawberries in NZ needle-free, supermarkets say

  • 16/09/2018

New Zealand supermarket chains are reassuring customers they won't find needles in their strawberries.

Six brands have been pulled from supermarket shelves in Australia as more people uncover the sharp objects in their fruit.

Countdown has triple-checked its stock and says it doesn't have any of the impacted brands or labels in store.

Foodstuffs says it's a dreadful situation, but the fruit that was recalled hasn't been distributed to New World, Pak'nSave and Four Square stores here.

"We can assure customers that none of the fruit in our stores is in any way associated with the recall underway in Australia," a spokesperson told Newshub.

Our strawberry season is set to start soon.

Officials in Australia are offering a $110,000 award to catch the culprit.
