Waikato police share photo of 'lucky' driver's car after high speed crash

Waikato police have shared a photo of a driver's lucky escape after their brand new car careened off the road and into a fence.

A spokesperson for the police wrote on Facebook the car had been purchased less than a week before the accident, which occurred when the car changed gear while driving down a wet road.

  • According to the post the car's driver had never owned a high performance vehicle before and had saved up a while to buy what was their dream car.

But after changing gears, the back wheels spun out of control and the car went through a fence and over a cattle tunnel.

It came to a rest on a grass verge with two large wooden posts through the windshield on the driver's side.

"The driver is EXTREMELY lucky considering the wooden fence brushed the drivers face. Only injury - a sprained ankle!" the spokesperson said.

Constable John Keoghan took a photo of the accident and encouraged it to be shared on Facebook in the hopes it would make people think about the risks they take while driving.
