Armed police raid home as part of Charing Cross homicide investigation

Armed police swarmed a Christchurch home on Tuesday in relation to a gang-associated homicide investigation. 

Several police officers, including armed offender squad members, searched the property on Gilberthorpes Road in Hornby on Tuesday evening. 

Detective Inspector Corrie Parnell confirmed the raid was in relation to the Charing Cross homicide investigation. 

Luke Riddell, 28, was shot and killed on Saturday.

The body of Mr Riddell, who is believed to be a King Cobra member, was found at Charing Cross, outside of Christchurch at 3.30pm on Saturday. 

Police went to the Hornby property to attempt to contact the occupants.

Police activated a number of loud acoustic devices to draw their attention. The address was cleared and no occupants were present, Detective Inspector Parnell said.

No arrests were made at the property. It was guarded by officers overnight and a scene examination will be conducted on Wednesday.

The investigation is expected to extend throughout the week, and locals will see a heavy presence of police in the area.
