Name revealed of woman who died in Pike River race motorcycle crash

The woman killed in a motorcycle crash at a Pike River memorial event has been named.

Jayne Jamieson was from Inangahua, a small town north of Reefton.

She took part in the Tribute 29 Pike River Memorial Run on the West Coast on Saturday. The annual event commemorated the mine explosion that killed 29 men eight years ago on Monday.

The crash happened on State Highway 6 just before 4pm, about 1km on from Berlins Café and Bar. Ms Jamieson died at the scene.

Newshub understands Ms Jamieson's motorcycle narrowly avoided colliding with another vehicle as she left Berlins, not long before the crash that would end her life.

Stuff reports she was a passenger on the motorcycle.

Police want to hear from anyone who was at or around Berlins between 3:30pm and 4pm. They also want to speak to the occupants of the vehicle that almost crashed into Ms Jamieson's motorcycle.

Motorists who passed the scene of the fatal crash before emergency services arrived are also urged to contact Greymouth Police on 03 768 1600 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Hours after the crash, the organisers confirmed on the official event Facebook page that a participant had been involved in a crash in the Buller Gorge.

Tributes to Ms Jamieson poured in from those involved in the event, with many mourning the loss of a "fellow rider".

The 52-year-old was one of four motorcycle riders who lost their lives on New Zealand's roads on Saturday. Two others were killed in a Southland charity race, and a third died in a crash in West Auckland.
