Police are appealing for information as they continue to investigate the disappearance of missing Auckland teenager Mia Cooper.

They say there has been "some contact" but they are still treating it as a missing person's report and trying to verify that it is her.

"Police cannot discount the possibility that she may be with associates," police posted to a local Facebook page.

"We would like to speak with Mia to establish that she is safe and well."

Anyone who has seen Mia or knows where she is can contact Police confidentially on (09) 426 4555.

Mia's mother Tracey Stewart earlier on Tuesday posted to Facebook saying "we are in the process of trying to get Mia home and surrounding her with the love and support she needs".

In her Facebook post, Ms Stewart said Mia was "alright" but later clarified she is in fact still missing.

"We are forever grateful for the love support, calls visits and texts [sic]."

There have been concerns for the 15-year-old's welfare since they received a missing person's report about Mia on Saturday morning.

Her mother said Mia had been "battling with depression and anxiety for the past year and things have been tough for her".
