Givealittle set up for family of man killed after car rear-ended in Auckland

Over $137,000 has been raised for the family of a man who died after his car was rear-ended in Auckland.

Zhengwen Alan Hu died last Monday while waiting at a red light in Botany Downs.

His car was the third in a line of three stationary cars when a fourth one struck them at high speed.

Mr Hu was the only casualty in the crash and left behind a wife and two daughters, 8 and 11.

One of the first-responding medical officers, Dr Jacky Lam, set up a Givealittle page for Mr Hu's family.

"They went from a perfectly happy family to devastation in the blink of an eye," the page says.

"On top of sorrow of losing her husband and their dad, they are now in financial hardship from the loss of his income."

The page has had over 3000 donations, totalling over $137,000, which the page says will be used to fund his funeral and support his young daughters through their education.

A work colleague of Mr Hu's has commented on the page, saying that his colleagues have been grieving his death.

"Alan was a great colleague, friend, brother, father and husband, we had over 200 people at Alan's farewell yesterday and he had a great send-off."
