One person has died following a two-car crash on State Highway 3 near the Awakino Tunnel north of New Plymouth, bringing this Easter's road toll to two.
Emergency services were alerted to the collision shortly after 12.30pm on Monday.
Two other people received minor injuries, and a police investigation is underway.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, as the road has been closed.
Another person died after a single car crash on Sunday night.
Police were called to the scene on Hākarimata Road in Huntly around 8:30pm on Sunday.
Another received minor injuries in the crash.
Last year seven people were killed on New Zealand's road's over the Easter break.
