'Go boy go!': Timaru man on mobility scooter chased by police

Hilarious video has emerged of a mobility scooter rider leading police on a low speed-chase in Timaru.

The patrol car's lights are flashing as the scooter weaves in and out of traffic, and then onto a footpath.

The officer then tries to manoeuvre around traffic to stay with him. Newshub understands the chase took place on Timaru's Wai-iti Rd.

"What is the old man up to?" the woman filming the video says.

After a determined effort to escape, the scooter is finally forced down a driveway by the cop.

The video, posted to Facebook, has been shared hundreds of times since it emerged on Thursday morning.

Commenters described the video as "hilarious" and "a bit of Timaru".

"Must have been on his restricted," one wrote.

"Hope pop hasn't escaped," another said.

A police spokesperson told Newshub it was aware of the incident and the video circulating on social media.

"No arrest was made. We are in the midst of conducting inquiries to establish the circumstances and will provide further updates when we are in a position to do so."
