Manhunt continues after Australian tourist shot dead near Raglan

A homicide investigation is underway after an Australian tourist was shot dead as a gunman attempted to steal his campervan near Raglan.

On Friday morning, police confirmed a manhunt was underway after a serious incident on Whaanga Rd, Raglan. A body was later found inside a stolen van roughly 80km away on Gordonton Rd.

The Age has since reported that the victim is Victorian man Sean McKinnon.

The gunman attempted to break into the campervan as 33-year-old McKinnon and his 32-year-old female Canadian partner were asleep at the Te Toto Gorge carpark in Raglan early on Friday morning.

After McKinnon was shot and his partner escaped, the shooter stole the van and drove to Gordonton Rd, which is close to Hamilton.

Police and a forensics team have been at the Gordonton Rd crime scene all day. A blue tent has been erected around the van.

Gunshots reported in Hamilton on Friday afternoon were not related to this incident, Police have confirmed to Newshub.

Insp Graham Pitkethley says police want to hear from anyone who may have seen the vehicle or may have information that could be helpful.
