One dead in house fire north of Auckland

A house fire north of Auckland has claimed a life.

Fire and Emergency say a person died in the blaze on Birdsall St in Whangateau.

Flames ripped through the home before 7pm on Saturday.

Emergency services will remain at the scene Sunday morning.
