A 26-year-old man has been charged with the robbery of central Auckland shooting victim Clifford Umuhuri.

Umuhuri, a 47-year-old member of the Mongrel Mob gang, was found dead on Parkfield Terrace in Grafton around three weeks ago after a shooting incident in St Johns.

Police say they executed two search warrants at properties in Panmure on Monday night with the help of the armed offenders squad and arrested a 26-year-old man.

"This man has been arrested and charged with the aggravated robbery of Mr Umuhuri and is due to appear in the Auckland District Court today," police say.

Detective Inspector Lloyd Schmid says police can't rule out further charges and arrests.

"This investigation has continued to make good progress since Mr Umuhuri's death on June 1 and this arrest is welcome news for the enquiry team," he says.

Scene guards are in place at one address on McCulloch Rd and at another property nearby on Bardia Rd.

Further searches will be conducted by the enquiry team at these properties today.

"Police are limited in further comment given there has been a charge laid in connection with this enquiry."

Anyone with information over Umuhuri's death is asked to contact Auckland City Crime Squad on (09) 302 6557 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
