Police are looking for a man who grabbed a child's hand as they were on their way to school in Mangere.

Police are looking for a man who grabbed a child's hand in Māngere this morning while the child was on their way to school with a parent.

Detective senior sergeant Tom Gollan says the incident happened on Hall Avenue in Favona at 9.15am today.

The man, who was unknown to the child, then fled the scene on foot.

The child was not harmed and police have spoken with the child's parent and school.

Police are asking anyone who saw the incident to to contact Counties Manukau Police or Crimestoppers.
