The art of Amigurumi: Kiwi woman's lockdown hobby becomes new money-making passion for charity

As a consequence of New Zealand's COVID-19 lockdowns, the majority of us have spent more time cooped-up indoors than ever before.

Kiwis have had to think outside the box to keep ourselves and our families entertained, without venturing into the great outdoors.

While some tucked into 1000-piece jigsaw puzzles, others cranked up the oven and tried their luck at baking banana bread.

But when the walls began closing in on Shaina Boswell, she decided to head to her local sewing store and invested in a hook and some yarn.

Fast-forward to now and Shaina has taught herself the Japanese art of Amigurumi - a form of knitting stuffed toys.

We stumbled across the most recent addition to her embroidered family on TradeMe, and had to meet her for ourselves.
