Coronavirus livestream: Chris Hipkins, Caroline McElnay update on NZ's latest community COVID-19 case

This livestream is expected to begin at 5.10pm.

Minister of COVID Response Chris Hipkins and Director of Public Health Caroline McElnay are providing another COVID-19 update.

It follows a press conference where Hipkins and Dr Ashley Bloomfield spoke to reporters at 1pm on Thursday following the discovery of a new case of COVID-19 in Auckland's community.

Initially they said the case, a woman in her 20s, had no link to managed isolation facilities or the border.

As they were only notified of the woman's infection late on Thursday morning, the Ministry of Health has yet to identify the source of her infection.

However she lives next door to a quarantine facility and Stuff reports she may have mingled with its residents when a fire alarm on Monday forced an evacuation of the facility and her apartment block.

She is one of three cases reported on Thursday - one detected in managed isolation, the other linked to a November quarantine facility case, where members of the Defence Force dined together, having worked in one of the facilities.
