Wellingtonians are urged to be cautious as the capital's shoreline is battered by another day of heavy swells and possible coastal flooding.
A heavy swell warning has been issued for the city's southern coast - from Baring Head to Sinclair Head - which is effective until 11pm on Sunday.
On Sunday morning, southerly swells are expected to rise rapidly to 4 to 4.5 metres with a period of 13 to 15 seconds, MetService says, before easing to 3.5 metres at night.
High-tide, expected at 11:44am, will pose the highest risk to coastal residents.
"Heads up Swellington, swells along the south coast of the capital rapidly pick up tomorrow, where there's a heavy swell warning from morning," MetService said on Twitter.
"With high tide around late morning, remember to take extra care as this will be the highest risk period."
The National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) has also warned residents along the capital's south coast to stay alert for "possible coastal inundation" at high-tide from 11:30am to 12pm.
The Wellington Region Emergency Management Office is encouraging coastal residents to have an up-to-date household plan, according to NZHerald.co.nz.
Wellington was also subjected to severe winds on Saturday, with a strong wind watch issued across the region. The northwest gales have since eased.
