Woman arrested in Rotorua for allegedly pointing gun at police before stealing, crashing cop car

A woman has been arrested after allegedly pointing a firearm at police officers before stealing and crashing a patrol vehicle in Rotorua on Sunday night.

The incident happened at about 9pm when police officers were approached by the woman in Whakarewarewa.

Police said the woman pointed a gun at officers before fleeing on foot. She then got into their patrol vehicle and drove off, before crashing in Wahiao Dr.

No-one was injured following the incident, a police spokesperson told Newshub.

"The woman was arrested, a short distance away, and taken into custody and the firearm was recovered."
