Police have launched a manhunt following a shooting in Tasman on Tuesday.

The wanted man in question, Jahdai Kennard, is said to be dangerous and police warn he should not be approached.

"We believe he may have information which can assist with our enquiries," a post on the Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast Police Facebook page read.

"If you have seen Jahdai, or have any information about his whereabouts, please contact Police on 111 and quote file number 210413/9242."

The manhunt comes just a day after emergency services responded to a firearms incident on Fry St, Motueka, in which a man was flown to Nelson Hospital with moderate injuries.

A man was seen fleeing from the scene in a vehicle.

Nelson Bays area commander Inspector Paul Borrell said it's understood the shooter and victim may be known to each other.
