A woman was arrested on Monday after allegedly pulling out an imitation gun during a fight in Auckland last week.

Police said in a statement the 20-year-old woman was charged with threatening to cause grievous bodily harm and carrying an imitation firearm with criminal intent.

The incident happened on Thursday and while video posted on social media appeared to show students from Ōtāhuhu College involved in the fight, police said the arrested woman was not a pupil and the fight didn't happen on school property or during classroom hours.

During the fight, a woman could be seen in the video drawing a weapon but it's since been confirmed it was a starter pistol - an imitation firearm traditionally used at the start of a running race. Police said the gun has since been handed in.

It remains unclear whether anyone involved in the fight was injured.

The police statement said officers continue to work closely with Ōtāhuhu College on the matter.
