Hamilton Kmart staff attacked with tongs, have hair pulled in messy brawl caught on camera

Hair pulling, kicking and a woman appearing to stab at staff with tongs was all captured in a wild video of a messy alleged attempted robbery at a Kmart outlet in Waikato on Saturday.

The footage has been shared on Facebook and shows two women attacking staff near the entrance of the central Hamilton department store.

One woman uses a pair of tongs as a weapon in the video, striking at people and yelling "get f***ed" as she scrambles to take items strewn across the floor.

Meanwhile, the other woman has a tight grip on the ponytail of a security guard, pulling the guard's head down to her knees at one point and appearing to punch them in the head.

The guard then appears to try and kick the woman away, but the woman then appears to kick the guard in the belly.

As the guard is pulled between the alarm barriers by their ponytail, the woman armed with the tongs comes in from behind and looks as though she stabs the guard in the back.

It appears as though one of the assailants is yanking the guard's ponytail back and forth before other staff members and what looks like a member of the public finally break them free.

One of the perpetrators is pushed to the ground, but gets up and attempts to take more shopping items from the floor.

In a statement, police confirmed to Newshub they attended the incident at the Bryce Street Kmart on Saturday but were unable to locate any staff on site, nor did they apprehend the offenders.

"Police have followed up with staff at the premises today and enquiries are ongoing."

Newshub has approached Kmart for further information about the incident.
