Auckland crime: Witness horrified after two men leap into motorist's car, beat driver in brazen daytime attack

An Auckland man says he no longer feels safe after witnessing a brutal daytime attack at a traffic light in south Auckland.

The brazen attack happened in Clendon Park in South Auckland at around 2:20pm on Tuesday.

Dashcam footage of the attack, which he sent to Newshub, shows a silver car coming to a stop at a traffic light.

A white car then zooms up next to it before two men jump out. One of the men jumps straight into the passenger seat while the other walks around to the driver's door, yanks it open and starts repeatedly punching the occupant.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, told Newshub he and his friend were travelling to Weymouth when the attack happened

He said it took place near the Clendon shopping centre. While he said the area has always been a bit rough it has been getting worse.

"I definitely feel violence is becoming a major issue in the city," he told Newshub.

"I'm not sure what started the attack. Whether it was a gang-related attack or road rage. It looks like one car may have cut off the other car."

He said he no longer feels safe in the area after witnessing the attack.

Police told Newshub they were called to reports of an assault on Roscommon Rd on Tuesday afternoon.

"Police attended and located a male driver with moderate facial injuries," a spokesperson said.
"The alleged offenders and an associated vehicle fled the scene before police arrived.

"We understand this would have been a very distressing incident for the victim and witnesses."
