Police are searching for an "extremely dangerous" man in Christchurch in connection with last week's shooting in the city.

Last Tuesday, a person was shot at what has now been confirmed as a property on Hereford Street. Detective Senior Sergeant Tania Jellyman of Canterbury Police said police executed a number of search warrants in relation to the shooting and their enquiries indicate this wasn't a random incident.

In an update on Monday, Det Snr Sgt Jellyman said they are now seeking the public's help in finding Hendrix Rawiri Jury, who police said is 27 years old, who has a warrant for his arrest in relation to this incident.

"He is considered to be extremely dangerous and should not be approached," she said.

"If you see Hendrix or know where he is, please call 111 immediately."
