Two people charged over Christchurch dog walker stabbing

Two people have been charged in relation to the stabbing of a man in Christchurch.

The victim was walking his dog at Bexley Reserve on Monday when he was repeatedly stabbed between 5am and 6am, sparking a hunt for the offenders.

Earlier on Wednesday, police confirmed they raided two Corhampton Street properties in relation to the incident, and as part of those enquiries have been speaking with two people, Detective Inspector Nicola Reeves said.

One of those, an 18-year-old man, has now been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He is due to appear in Christchurch District Court on Thursday.

The other, a 23-year-old woman, has been charged as an accessory after the fact. She will appear in court at a later date.

"Police would like to thank those members of the public who have come forward to share valuable information," Det Insp Reeves said.

"As the matter is now before the courts, Police will not comment further."

On Tuesday, police said they were searching for a man and woman who were seen leaving the scene in a small white vehicle at around 5:10am.

Witnesses heard arguing before the attack unfolded, Det Insp Reeves told AM.

"He is in a critical condition - he's fighting for his life," she said of the victim. "He is surrounded by a lot of love up at the hospital and so this is why we're really making this appeal to the public so that we can actually get this matter resolved and give this family and our victim some answers.

"We released the details yesterday about this man and this woman [offenders]... since that time, and even since this matter was first reported, we've had a lot of calls coming in and we're chasing all of those down to work out whether they're relevant to our investigation or whether they're not."
