Video: Hamilton boy 'so sad' after spending over two hours trick-or-treating but getting almost nothing

A Hamilton mum and her son were left disappointed after trick-or-treating on Monday night and coming up almost empty-handed.

Loreena Paul and her five-year-old son Beau decided to go trick-or-treating to celebrate Halloween but after half an hour of knocking on doors on their street, they had nothing to show for it.

Paul decided to post on TikTok and a Facebook community page to ask if anyone was giving out lollies for Halloween.

She captioned the TikTok: "Where are all the houses in Hamilton for trick-or-treat?"

Paul told Newshub she wanted to post on social media as a last resort.

"I felt like posting on social media wasn't something we had to do when I was growing up."

Paul said she and her son walked all around the suburb of Nawton, Hamilton before they decided to go back home.

"We were walking for two-and-a-half hours and only found five houses while were out trick-or-treating."

She told Newshub she had never seen her son "so sad" and he had told her: "I wish I had some friends to go trick-or-treating with."

Paul said a few people from Facebook came and found her and her son to give him something for Halloween.

"I am very grateful for the people who came and found us."

She added her son's great-grandad drove two-and-a-half hours to give him some lollies and his uncle gave him $5 which made him happy.

Paul said she was disappointed because "people weren't even answering their doors".

"A lot of houses were decorated but weren't giving out candy," she said.

The mother told Newshub she would definitely plan her trick-or-treating next year to prevent her son from being disappointed again.
