Auckland weather: Event cancellations - What you need to know

Heavy rainfall and flooding in Auckland have forced event organisers to cancel a number of events over the long weekend.

On Friday night, Auckland was placed in a state of emergency after widespread flooding engulfed the region.

The state of emergency is in place for at least a week.

The following events have been cancelled or postponed due to the treacherous weather.

LANEWAY FESTIVAL - CANCELLED 

Event organisers for Monday's Laneway Festival at Auckland's Western Springs announced on Saturday afternoon the event was cancelled.

"Unfortunately, due to the unprecedented weather event in Auckland, we have made the heartbreaking decision to cancel Laneway Festival," the official Laneway Festival NZ page tweeted.

GARDENS MUSIC FESTIVAL - VENUE CHANGE

The Gardens Music Festival with headline act Fatboy Slim has moved the concert indoors to Auckland's Spark Arena for Sunday's concert.

Event organisers Endeavour Live said on its website "We are in the process of working through the logistics of such a move and will make more information available as soon as possible."

SIR ELTON JOHN CONCERT - CANCELLED 

Sir Elton John's second Auckland concert scheduled for Saturday at Mt Smart stadium is cancelled.

On the event page, the singer said he is "deeply saddened" by the cancellation of his last NZ show.

"This is a very difficult decision which doesn't come lightly, and I'm so sorry to all my fans who bought tickets. Cancelling shows is always the very last resort, but we have to think of my team, the venue staff and fan safety," he said.

ONE LOVE FESTIVAL - CANCELLED

The reggae festival One Love at Tauranga Domain over the weekend has been cancelled.

Event organisers said in a statement "From site flooding, to high winds, to artists being stuck in Auckland, thunderstorms predicted and heavy rain tomorrow as well, we are unable to safely and logistically deliver One Love 2023."

FESTIVAL ONE - CANCELLED

The Christian music festival scheduled in Karapiro, Waikato is cancelled.

Event organisers said on Facebook "It breaks my heart, but we are going to have to cancel Festival One as of now. (8:30 am Saturday morning)"

FATBOY SLIM NAPIER CONCERT - CANCELLED

The Fatboy Slim concert in Napier on Saturday has been cancelled.

In a Facebook post, event organisers said "Due to the current weather event affecting Napier and the impact this has had on the festival site and its surrounds, Endeavour Live announce the cancellation of the Fat Boy Slim Concert set for Tremain Park tonight."

OPERA IN THE PARK - RESCHEDULED

The Opera in the Park event at Auckland's St Heiler's has been rescheduled for Saturday, March 4.

"Due to the current weather conditions in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, Auckland Council and NZ Opera have made the joint decision to postpone this weekend's Opera in the Park," New Zealand Opera said on its Facebook page.
