Auckland flooding: Some beaches get the green tick for swimming

Some beaches on Waiheke and Auckland's southeast coast are now swimmable despite last week's flooding.

This comes following Auckland Emergency Management's update on Monday, with multiple warnings remaining in place and people being encouraged to keep safe by staying out of the water at most beaches this long weekend.

Beaches now safe to swim at:

Waiheke

  • Oneroa
  • Little Oneroa Beach
  • Sandy Bay
  • Palm Beach
  • Onetangi Beach
  • Surfdale

East Auckland

  • Umupuia Duder
  • Magazine Bay
  • Maraetai

On Auckland Council's Safeswim website, almost all beaches have a black pin, meaning a wastewater overflow has occurred.

Other beaches have a red pin, indicating there is poor water quality.

"Do not swim until it's a 'green' tick on Safeswim," the website said.

Beaches along the west coast have safety warnings due to large surf today, and are patrolled with lifeguards.
