The pilot involved in the microlight plane crash in Taranaki has died.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Drew Bennett said police were notified of the crash in Stratford at 11:45am on Tuesday.

Pictures from the scene show what appears to be the wing of the microlight pointing out from the ground.

"We extend our condolences to them at his difficult time."

Det Snr Sgt Bennett added police will support Civil Aviation Authority investigators and the Coroner in their investigations into the crash.
