A multitude of products that contain taihini have been recalled due to the possibility of Salmonella contamination.
In a statement on Wednesday, New Zealand Food Safety said it supported Life Health Foods NZ Ltd in its recall of Lisa's, Greater! and Prep Kitchen brands products containing tahini due to the possible presence of Salmonella.
"Salmonellosis can be serious, so it is important that people do not eat these products," New Zealand Food Safety deputy director-general Vincent Arbuckle said.
"Symptoms appear within 12 to 72 hours and include abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, fever, headache, nausea and vomiting."
Arbuckle said the symptoms usually last between four to seven days but can go up to 10 days if the illness is more severe.

The Lisa's, Greater! and Prep Kitchen brand products that are sold in supermarkets and retail outlets throughout NZ have been removed from the shelves and have not been exported.
"As is our usual practice, New Zealand Food Safety will be working with Life Health Foods NZ Ltd to understand how the contamination occurred and prevent its recurrence," Arbuckle said.

- Lisa's Hummus Gloriously Garlic

- Lisa's Hummus Kumara with Coconut and Tumeric
- Lisa's Original Hummus
- Lisa's Original Hummus with Garlic and Lemon Gluten Free
- Lisa's Smokey Hummus with Garlic and Tahini Gluten Free
