Ram raid on Auckland CBD fashion store, 'several near misses' in high-speed chase

It was a busy early morning for police in Tāmaki Makaurau following two separate incidents, a ram raid and a high-speed chase.

Two teenagers have been arrested following the high-speed chase across Auckland.

Just after 3am on Tuesday, police saw a stolen vehicle driving along the Albany Highway.

In a statement to Newshub, a police spokesperson said officers signalled for the vehicle to stop, but instead it fled "at sped" and police "elected not to follow".

The spokesperson said the vehicle was later tracked through to Onewa Rd where it pulled into a petrol station.

The two youth offenders then allegedly tried to break into the service station before fleeing again in the same vehicle.

Police said they successfully spiked the vehicle before it did a U-turn on SH1 and travelled south in the northbound lanes.

"Following several near misses with members of the public, the driver took the Gillies Ave exit and was brought to a stop by ground staff on Owens Rd."

Ram raid

The high-speed chase came just an hour before officers responded to a ram raid in Auckland's CBD, which left a storefront destroyed.

Footage from the scene shows shattered glass outside Lacoste's downtown clothing store.

Police were called to the premises on Jean Batten Place just after 2am on Tuesday.

A police spokesperson said offenders appeared to use a vehicle to gain entry to the store.

"A number of items were taken before the offender left in the same vehicle".

Police say their investigation into the ram raid is ongoing.
