Night of crime: Police respond to two ram raids and arrest two teenagers for fleeing from police

Auckland police have been busy overnight responding to two burglaries in 45 minutes and arresting two teenagers for fleeing from police.

The first burglary was a ram raid at a shop on Pakuranga Road in Highland Park at around 1:40am.

A police spokesperson said the offenders entered the store after ram-raiding the entrance and stealing a number of items before being disturbed by staff working inside.

The offenders fled the scene in the same vehicle and so far, no one has been arrested for the ram raid.

The next burglary was at the FreshChoice supermarket on West Coast Road in Glen Eden at around 2:15am on Thursday morning.

Police said the offenders ram-raided the supermarket to gain entry and attempted to access cigarettes but were unsuccessful. They then fled the scene in the same vehicle.

Meanwhile, a short time later, a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old were arrested by police, also in Glen Eden.

Police said they noticed a suspicious vehicle at around 2:25am and the driver fled at the sight of Police.

Police spotted the vehicle on Swanson Rd. Cordons were put in place and the vehicle was spiked on West Coast Rd but continued on through road closures before crashing into a washed-out portion of the road.

The two teenagers were arrested and also taken to hospital for checks.

It is unclear if the arrests are connected to the burglary at the FreshChoice supermarket.
