South Aucklanders 'scared', say they don't feel safe after multiple shootings

Multiple shootings in south Auckland have kept police busy at the weekend.

A residential address in Ōtara was sprayed with bullets during an apparent drive-by shooting, terrifying the neighbours. Police cordoned off the Sandra Avenue property on Saturday night and after the sun rose on Sunday, bullet holes could be seen at the front of the property.

Fine Ngaluafe lives next door and said a couple of minutes after hearing gunshots, he saw a car driving off.

No one was injured, but that's little comfort for Ngaluafe.

"About three rounds, it was pretty loud. It sounded like it was inside of my house. As soon as we heard it, I yelled out to the missus to turn off the lights and just make sure all the kids were safe and stuff," he said.

He has three young children.

"The last thing you want is your kids to feel unsafe."

Witnesses Newshub spoke to said they heard shots fired from the street before 10pm on Saturday.

"Three gunshots, you could hear it, three shots, and we ran downstairs to see what was happening," said Sandra Avenue resident Hola Moleni.

Moleni and her family just moved to Sandra Avenue, but they no longer feel safe.

"Not anymore, not this street."

She called Saturday's shooting "scary".

At around the same time, police responded to reports of shots being fired at a property on nearby Blampied Road. They're investigating whether the two shootings are linked.

Police also said a shot was fired at an address on Smedley Street in Manurewa. A glaring shotgun hole can be seen in the front of the house.

And on Sunday, police responded to reports of a firearm being discharged at an address on Cargill Street in Papakura.

It was a busy weekend for law enforcement in Auckland's south. The communities can expect to see an increased police presence as investigations continue.
