Christchurch police locate missing real estate agent's phone as investigation into disappearance continues

Police have expressed their deep concerns for missing Christchurch real estate agent Yanfei Bao.

Christchurch police and Bao's whānau say her disappearance is very out of character.

Bao was last known to be making business calls in Wigram but she failed to pick up her daughter from school on Wednesday afternoon.

Police have since found her car and cell phone and are asking for CCTV footage.

Police have spent Friday retracing the last known steps of Chinese woman Yanfei Bao.

The quiet Christchurch suburb of Wigram is the centre of a Police investigation into her mysterious disappearance.

"Police have also been conducting door-to-door enquiries in the areas she was last seen in," said Detective Inspector Nicola Reeves.

But the biggest clue to her whereabouts was discovered several kilometres away.

"Today police have searched a number of areas and have located one of Ms Bao's cellphones on the Southern Motorway near Blakes Rd. Ms Bao remains missing," Det Insp Reeves said.

The 44-year-old was last seen at 10:30am on Wednesday morning when she was out door-knocking to promote her real estate services.

Her car was later found a kilometre away on Iroquois Place.

Bao's husband posted on social media saying she is a dedicated real estate consultant and he hasn't heard from her since. He and her daughter are incredibly worried.

So too are her real estate colleagues who have stopped work and have printed off thousands of leaflets and posters. Every storefront in Wigram has one on the shop front.

While the distraught family on Friday requested privacy, Det Insp Reeves read a statement from them.

"My family and I are deeply concerned for the safety and well-being of my beloved wife, Yanfei Bao," she said on behalf of Bao's family.

"Our nine-year-old daughter and I are desperate for any information that could help Police locate her."

Police have combed nearby parks and are hoping local residents can help paint a picture of what's happened.

"If you live in that area and have not spoken with police but have access to CCTV footage of the street area, police would like to hear from you," Det Insp Reeves told media.

Forty police officers are working on the case, which is still very much being treated as a missing persons investigation.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 111 and quote file number P055385539.
