Auckland grandmother afraid to leave her house after fatal shooting at Taurima Reserve

Police are now hunting for offenders linked to two separate fatal shootings in Auckland, just days apart.

The search continues for a 24-year-old man wanted in connection to a deadly Queen St shooting on Thursday night.

And last night a homicide investigation was launched after a man died from a gunshot wound following an incident in Pt England.

Officers could be seen on their hands and knees on Sunday as they searched for evidence that could help them find the offender responsible for the shooting on Saturday at the Taurima Reserve, now the scene of a homicide investigation.

It unfolded right outside the home of Elizabeth, who lives on Taurima Ave.

"It's something one would never think would ever happen on your street, and I think it's very sad," she told Newshub.

"Where are the guns coming from?" she asked. "I thought we got rid of guns but obviously it hasn't happened."

Police were called to the Taurima Reserve on Saturday afternoon after reports of disorder and gunshots. It's now the scene of a homicide investigation after a man later self-presented to hospital with gunshot wounds and died.

Police say he died at Auckland Hospital in the city. But another person with a gunshot wound showed up at Middlemore Hospital in the city's south, where officers were seen standing guard. Police are investigating if they're connected.

A grandmother who lives across the road from the Taurima Reserve told Newshub she heard the gunfire.

"It was in the afternoon, roughly in the afternoon. I was sleeping because I was cold. And all I could hear was a shotgun, like a big bang."

She's been too frightened to leave the house.

"We needed milk but we couldn't go to the shops. I was scared. It's not safe anymore for me and my family."

Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Ward Councillor Josephine Bartley told Newshub it's "understandable" that locals are scared.

But as the local councillor, she says she's received assurances from the Area Commander that there's no threat to the wider community.

"I have not heard that it's gang-related, but the police are still doing their investigation."

It comes just days after a shooting late on Thursday night on Queen Street in the CBD. A man died the next day and a homicide investigation was launched.

On Saturday, police released a photo of 24-year-old Dariush Talagi, who is wanted in connection to it.

So, as the police search for him, they also have the painstaking task of collecting evidence to hold the latest shooter to account.
