Christchurch police have arrested several people in the early hours of Thursday morning following a string of burglaries.

In the first of three separate crimes, five teenagers were taken into police custody after an alleged burglary of a commercial property on Halswell Rd, Halswelll.

Police were called to the property at about 2:30am where the offenders fled in a vehicle. A police spokesperson said the vehicle was spiked on Sparks Rd not long after.

After the vehicle was spiked, police then used dogs to track and locate the five youths who were then taken into custody. Police say the alleged offenders will face charges in the Christchurch Youth Court.

Again, the offenders fled the scene, though luckily police stopped a vehicle a short distance away.

A police spokesperson said three people were arrested and taken into police custody, one of whom will appear in court on Thursday faced with burglary, drugs and firearms charges.

The other two offenders will appear in court on August 29 faced with burglary and firearms charges too.

An hour later, at about 5am police were called to another commercial premises on Madras St in central Christchurch following a ram-raid.
