Sentence date set for convicted child murderer Lauren Dickason

A sentencing date has been set for Lauren Dickason who faces a life sentence for murdering her children.

A High Court jury found Lauren Dickason guilty of murder on August 16 following a month-long trial in Christchurch.

On Friday, the court set the date of December 19 for her sentencing.

Dickason was not required to appear in court in person on Friday.

The high-profile case was centred around the tragic loss of three young children - 6-year-old Liané and 2-year-old twins Maya and Karla.

Dickason, a doctor from South Africa, had not long moved to Timaru with her family when she murdered her little girls.

Lauren admitted to killing the girls by smothering them to death but pleaded not guilty to murder. Her lawyers argued the defence of insanity and infanticide.

Ultimately, the jury delivered a majority verdict of guilty of murder for each child.

At the time, Justice Cameron Mander said it was inappropriate to remand Dickason in prison and she was detained to a hospital psychiatric unit.

Justice Mander requested expert reports about her mental health and psychiatric care before the sentencing hearing.

At Dickason's sentencing, Justice Mander will be tasked with setting a minimum term of imprisonment and deciding where she will be detained.
