Fire that engulfed Auckland industrial building now under control

Firefighters have contained a large fire inside a west Auckland industrial building on Thursday afternoon.

A police spokesperson told Newshub emergency services were called to Bancroft Cres in Glendene about 2.45pm.

Police officers are currently helping with traffic control in the area.

A fire chief told Newshub the fire was caused by someone welding.

Te Whakaratonga Iwi/Fire and Emergency (FENZ) said the blaze took hold in a building the size of 50x50 metres.

Eighteen trucks attended with fire crews from across Tāmaki Makaurau.

FENZ assistant commander Dave Woon said the fire is now under control and has been contained to "one cell within the building, which has multiple occupants".

Hāto Hone St John said in a statement they had treated four people.

"Fire and Emergency appreciates the cooperation of workers in the area, which is heavily congested due to the number of fire appliances attending this incident.

"There have not been any evacuations of surrounding buildings."

The building sits in the middle of an industrial area, right next to the Whau River.
