Ellerslie double homicide: What we know about victims Fuk-Fu Joseph Kwok, Mei Han Chong

Police say the victims of the Ellerslie double homicide were "a loving couple" whose careers involved "helping other people".

On Sunday further details were revealed about the deaths of Fuk-Fu Joseph Kwok and Mei Han Chong, with police saying it was "beyond comprehension" for the family.

The body of Fuk-Fu Joseph Kwok was found at his Ellerslie home last weekend, with police saying he died from "multiple stab wounds".

His wife, Mei Han Chong, was later found dead in Auckland's Greenhithe. Police revealed on Sunday she died from "blunt force injuries to her head".

"This news is understandably distressing to her family, in particular Mei and Joseph's son. Mei was a 5-foot-tall, 67-year-old woman, weighing no more than 45 kilograms," Detective Inspector Scott Beard said in a statement on Sunday.

"It is beyond comprehension for the family as to how something like this could happen to Mei and Joseph."

Two people, a 26-year-old and a 42-year-old man, have been charged with their murder.

'A loving couple'

Police say the pair began their life in New Zealand in 1988 after moving from Hong Kong. Both had large families, who they cared for and supported.

Chong had been a nurse in Hong Kong before becoming a midwife. When she moved to New Zealand she focused on her family, and was described as a "loving wife" and "supportive mother to her and Joseph's son".

She enjoyed reading, following current affairs, and catching up with her close friends in Hong Kong when visiting.

"Although very small in stature, she was strong-minded and passionate about issues that were dear to her," police described her in a statement on Sunday.

Kwok was an orthopaedic nurse for many years.

"He was happy in his own world and cared about supporting his family and doing a good job in his chosen profession," police said.

"He was still working incredibly hard, and got home from work at 11:30pm the night before he was murdered."

Appeal for information

In recent days, police have executed search warrants at "a number of addresses", and seized two vehicles believed linked to the deaths.

CCTV has helped identify a suspicious vehicle and two people around Celtic Crescent, Ellerslie between 1:08am and 3:47am on Sunday, November 5, including the victim's car leaving the address at 3:47am.

"Police now know the two vehicles, including the stolen family car were together driving around the Ellerslie area for some time, and ask if anyone saw them to please contact Police," Det Insp Beard said.

Anyone who saw suspicious activity, including a blue Kia Rio with number plates beginning with the letters MDM around Kereru Grove in Greenhithe or Hall Road in Glenfield, should contact police immediately.
