More than 100 flights to and from Pōneke / Wellington have been cancelled or diverted on Tuesday, due to fog.

A spokesperson from the airport told Newshub that 91 flights have been cancelled so far, while 16 have been diverted.

"Unfortunately the low cloud is still here and has caused major disruptions today," they added.

An estimated 6000 passengers are affected.

The airport spokesperson said the terminal has been busy, and people are "frustrated but patient".

Air New Zealand, Jetstar, Qantas, Sounds Air, and Originair have all had flights affected so passengers should contact their airlines for updates.

Air NZ is yet to announce if its remaining evening flights will be cancelled.

Te Ratonga Tirorangi / MetService said earlier that visibility was down to just 2km.

The airport said tomorrow's weather forecast looks better, "but it could take a few days to clear the backlog," the airport spokesperson said in the update.

It comes after two days of weather-disrupted flights at the airport, with 35 flights cancelled on Sunday.
