Driver linked to fatal Auckland hit-and-run found by police, witnesses urged to come forward

Police have found the driver linked to a fatal hit-and-run on a rural Auckland road on Friday, and are urging witnesses to come forward.

At around 12:30am on December 8, a member of the public found a man unresponsive outside an address on O'Brien Rd in Lucas Heights, on Auckland's North Shore. 

According to a police spokesperson, the driver didn't stop and immediately left the scene. The man hit by the vehicle was unable to be revived and died.

Waitematā East Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Nimmo said the driver of the Mazda may have panicked following the incident. 

Police have since spoken with the driver but want to speak with people travelling on Ridge Rd and O'Brien Road in the Coatesville/Lucas Heights area between Thursday evening and Friday morning.
