A man has been charged after two pedestrians were injured at an Auckland Christmas parade in November.
The pedestrians were hit by a slow-moving Burger Fuel branded car at the Avondale Christmas Parade on November 25.
Police said on Wednesday a 45-year-old man is now facing two counts of careless driving causing injury.
He was due to appear in the Auckland District Court on March 4, Insp Alisse Robertson said.
She said a "thorough" investigation into the crash and subsequent events was carried out.
Despite reports of the collision sparking a "general melee" and the vehicle's occupants being attacked by members of the public, Robertson said investigators had "not been able to to corroborate" those allegations despite "extensive enquiries for CCTV, video footage or independent witnesses".
As such, investigations into the matter had concluded, she said.
That's despite Auckland City District Prevention Manager Insp Jacqui Whittaker at the time seemingly confirming the car's occupants were assaulted while they were seated.
In the aftermath of the crash, the NZ Herald reported the crowd had jumped on the bonnet of the car and smashed their fists on it - with Māori wardens holding them back.
According to Whau local board member Catherine Farmer, speaking to RNZ, the event's MC called out for people to "stop" and ring an ambulance before the "general melee" unfolded.
