Police say the man who died in an e-scooter crash in Auckland's Eden Terrace is 30-year-old Ryan Taylor.

Emergency services were called to the crash on Ian McKinnon Dr at about 11:30pm on Monday.

A police spokesperson said Taylor was located in a critical condition and CPR was commenced, but he died a short time later.

"Our thoughts are with Mr Taylor's friends and whānau during this difficult time," said Det Snr Sgt Jason McIntosh, of Tāmaki Makaurau.

"While an investigation into the circumstances of the crash remains underway, police can confirm no other vehicles were involved."

A Givealittle page has been set up for anyone who wishes to contribute to a memorial service for Taylor.

The page said he was a "special soul and will be dearly missed by many", and a memorial tree will be planted so friends and family can "visit his spirit at any time".

Taylor is the third person to die in an e-scooter crash since they came to New Zealand.

In September 2019, 23-year-old Toben Hunt died after falling off his Lime e-scooter in St Mary's Bay.

In August last year, 57-year-old Kathryn Fraser died after being struck by a van while riding an e-scooter.

Fraser was a well-known New Zealand Athletics official and judge.
