A person has been critically injured following a serious crash in Auckland's Onehunga this morning, closing a major road.

The crash, involving two vehicles on Onehunga Harbour Road, was reported to police around 7:35am on Monday.

Emergency services are at the scene, where one person has received critical injuries.

"Motorists are advised a section of Onehunga Harbour Road is closed while emergency services work at the scene," a police spokesperson said.

"Diversions are in place and motorists are advised to expect delays if travelling in the area."

The crash has closed the Onehunga Mall Rd and Neilson St intersection, as well as the Nielsen St northbound off-ramp.

"Delay your journey or allow extra time to use alternative off-ramp Queenstown Rd," the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) alerted in a Twitter post.

Auckland Transport advises bus routes 36, 38, 309, 309X will detour.

Google Maps showed an 8-minute delay heading north on SH20 over Māngere Bridge.

NZTA says motorists should expect delays until further notice.
