Police arrest second person in Mangamuka homicide investigation

Police have made a second arrest during their investigation into a homicide in Mangamuka, in the Far North.   

On Sunday night, emergency services were called to a property in Iwitaua Road, Mangamuka around 9pm following reports of a stabbing.  

A man was pronounced dead at the scene and a 50-year-old man was arrested nearby. He has been charged with murder and will appear in the Kaikohe District Court on Monday.   

In an update on Monday afternoon, Detective Inspector Al Symonds, Northland CIB, said a 39-year-old female has now been taken into custody.  

"The woman has been charged with possesses offensive weapon and is due to appear in the Kaitaia District Court tomorrow, Tuesday 5 March."  

The homicide investigation remains ongoing. 

"We cannot rule out further arrests or charges in relation to this incident as our enquiries continue," Det Insp Symonds said.  

"A police presence will remain in the area this evening."
