Two people have been taken into police custody after allegedly pointing what appeared to be a gun at two other people outside the Pukekohe District Court.

A police spokesperson told Newshub they were called to the court about 11am.

"Court security immediately alerted police who responded and the court was placed into lockdown for a short time," a statement said.

The Eagle helicopter responded to the area and located the vehicle believed to be involved travelling on Aka Aka Rd.

"Due to the nature of the incident, a specialist police team coordinated an armed approach and the pair were taken into custody without incident.

"A BB gun has since been located and recovered and the lockdown at the court has been lifted."
Charges for the pair are currently being considered.

"We thank those impacted for their patience while the incident was resolved," police said.
