A 56-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to abduct a school-aged girl in Auckland's Titirangi two weeks ago.

It comes after a man, described as Pākehā/European and in his 50s, allegedly drove next to the girl and grabbed her by the arm in Titirangi in the afternoon of Tuesday March 19.

The girl managed to run home, and police at the time appealed for sightings of the man's white flat-deck truck.

A Green Bay High School social media post said one of their students had been targeted, and the man had tried to pull her into his vehicle.

Detective Senior Sergeant Megan Goldie said a 56-year-old man was arrested at the weekend.

"We followed up on information from the public about a vehicle of interest in this case, which has led to the arrest," she said.

Det Snr Sgt Goldie said the man was charged with assaulting a female, and further charges are still on the table as the investigation continues.

"We believe there have been similar approaches in the west Auckland area over the last several months, and we encourage members of our community who have knowledge of these incidents to please contact Police."

The man is due to appear in the Waitākere District Court on Friday.
