A woman has been arrested after a 14-year-old was struck and killed by a car in Auckland's Papatoetoe last month.
After investigating the alleged fatal hit-and-run incident on March 8, police arrested a 30-year-old woman on Monday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Jason McIntosh said police received reports of the crash at around 10pm on Great South Rd.
"Sadly, 14-year-old male pedestrian Kaea Conan Mataū, from Papatoetoe, died at the scene," Det Snr Sgt McIntosh said.
He added the driver "immediately left the area following the collision".
Det Snr Sgt McIntosh said a vehicle was then found a short time later and an investigation was launched to identify the driver.
"Police have been making enquiries into the incident in the weeks following the crash and as a result, have today arrested a 30-year-old woman," he said.
"The woman was charged this morning with excess breath alcohol, failing to stop and ascertain injury, and driving in a dangerous manner."
She is due to appear in the Manukau District Court on Thursday, May 2.
Det Snr Sgt McIntosh said police hope this arrest brings some closure to the victim's family.
"We extend our condolences to Kaea's friends and whānau who are understandably devastated at what happened on that Friday night."
