Grass and pasture growth booms

As many parts of the country cope with soaring temperatures, booming grass growth has been providing a challenge for both the rural community and those in urban areas.

It follows a combination of rain at the end of 2018, and warm temperatures into the early part of the year.

Regional sales manager for Husqvarna, Steve Middleton, told Magic Talk's Rural Exchange the lush grass growth has been reflected in summer sales.

"A raft of products have been popular over summer, including battery line trimmers, and leaf blowers" he said.

Fire authorities have been advising land owners to keep grass growth down, with tinder dry conditions in some regions.

Meanwhile while most New Zealanders have the scorching summer temperatures on their mind, some are already preparing for winter.

"Chainsaws are also popular, for those getting ready for winter firewood."
