Deer on the loose in Marlborough caught on video

A woman has filmed a deer running around a town in Marlborough after seemingly pulling off an escape.

More FM Marlborough posted a video of the loose deer on its Facebook page after it was seen roaming about the Blenheim suburb of Witherlea.

"If someone has a deer missing it's going for a jog in Witherlea," the post said.

The woman who filmed the video, More FM Marlborough host Georgia Watt, said she saw the deer running towards her while out for a walk at about 7:30am on Thursday.

"Thankfully it detoured to the other side of the footpath but it definitely isn't something I have seen before.

"I live five minutes out of the CBD, so to see that was pretty insane."

While she's not entirely sure where the deer came from, Watt said there were sightings of it at the nearby Taylor River earlier in the morning.

"I did what most people would do these days and grabbed a video for Facebook - so many people have messaged saying it made their morning."

The Facebook video had been viewed 17,000 times as of 10:30am Thursday and attracted hundreds of comments.

"Imagine waking up hungover and seeing this," one user said.

"Getting his training in before Christmas," another wrote.

Watt said police and Animal Control arrived at the scene five minutes after she filmed the video.
