The Tuatara claimed their biggest win of the season with a 9-1 thrashing of Canberra Cavalry in Auckland on Sunday.

The win lifts the Auckland franchise to a 4-7 record, and ensured they split the weekend series with the Cavalry 2-2.

There was a special moment before the match as the not-dead Nathan McCullum threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Rumours circulated the former Blackcap had died due to complications in hospital on Saturday, but the 38-year-old proved he was alive with a well-pitched fast ball.

The Tuatara raced out to a 9-0 lead after four innings, while Canberra couldn't get off the mark thanks to some amazing pitching from Josh Collmenter.

The former Arizona Diamondbacks and Atlanta Braves right-hander showed off his skill by throwing five-and-a-third innings of one-run baseball, allowing five hits while striking out four batsmen.

On offence, Luke Hansen continued his impressive start to his Australian Baseball League rookie season, going 1-4 with two runs scored and a pair of runs batted in (RBI).

Max Brown, Kris Richards and Guiyuan Xu chipped in with a couple of hits each as the home side produced the best offensive game of their short history.

The Cavalry's sole run came at the top of the sixth.

The Tuatara begin a four-game series at McLeod Park from Friday against the Sydney Blue Sox.
