Colin Munro has fired Auckland to the top of the Ford Trophy table with a powerful 167 against Canterbury at Hagley Oval.

The Blackcaps opening batsman thrashed 22 fours and seven sixes, leading Auckland to their highest ever List A score of 401/8 off their 50 overs.

The century is Munro's second of the Ford Trophy campaign after scoring 119 in their seven-run loss to the Wellington Firebirds.

Glenn Phillips who is averaging 72 this season, chipped in with 66 runs and Mark Chapman scored a quickfire 70 off 44 balls.

Ed Nuttall was the pick of the Canterbury bowlers after being hit all over the ground he went for 3/67 off his 10 overs.

In reply, Canterbury struggled, losing four wickets inside the first 17 overs, including captain Cole McConchie.

Opener Justin Boyle top-scored with 92 but he ran out of people to bat with as he went down swinging.

Will Somerville stood out with the ball for the visitors, taking 4/48 off his 10 overs.

The Canterbury bowlers were left with far too much to do with the bat as Canterbury fell by 184 runs, giving up their top spot on the table.

In the other games, Northern Districts beat the Central Stags by six wickets, and the Volts beat Wellington by two runs.
